Core Privacy Guarantee: Smaran does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any of your personal, medical, or task information to any cloud servers. 100% of your data resides solely within your device's isolated SQLite database.
1. Privacy by Design Commitment
We believe that sensitive routines—especially medication regimes, family notes, personal identity, and daily commitments—belong strictly to you. Smaran is architected without external tracking, advertising libraries, or telemetry SDKs.
2. Categories of Stored Information
- User Profile & Cultural Honorific Identity: Upon initial startup, Smaran asks for your preferred display name (e.g. "Abhishek") and formats it with the respectful cultural honorific "Ji" (e.g. "Abhishek Ji"). This is stored strictly in your local SQLite database (
user_profile table) and fast local cache to respectfully personalize on-device greetings and reminder dashboards. It is NEVER transmitted off your terminal hardware.
- Medication & Health Reminders: Drug names, formulations, dosage instructions, and doctor prescriber notes.
- Daily Routines & Tasks: Titles, scheduled timestamps, notes, and priority levels.
- Adherence Audit Trails: Exact timestamps when reminders were taken, snoozed, or skipped.
- Family & Caregiver Contacts: Names, relationships, and emergency contact numbers stored solely on your hardware.
3. Statutory Multi-Jurisdiction Compliance
🇮🇳 India — Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act)
In compliance with DPDP Act 2023 Sections 5–15:
- Itemized Notice (Section 5): Personal identifiers (preferred user name e.g. "Abhishek Ji") and schedule records are processed exclusively on-device to personalize reminder delivery and respectfully greet the user.
- Data Principal Rights (Sections 11–14): Instant self-service right to access, rectify your preferred name (Settings > Personal Identity), or execute complete 1-tap local data erasure.

- CCPA/CPRA Notice at Collection: Categories collected locally include preferred user name/alias (for on-device greetings), schedule details, and notes. We do NOT sell or share your personal data with third parties or data brokers (0% sale/share).
- Right to Rectification: You can edit or change your stored name at any time directly in Settings > Personal Identity > Edit Name.
- HIPAA Disclaimer: Smaran is an independent consumer organizational tool and NOT a covered entity or business associate under 45 CFR § 160.103. Zero Protected Health Information (PHI) is transmitted to the cloud.
- COPPA: Directed to audiences 13 years and older.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom — UK GDPR & DPA 2018
- Lawful Bases (Art. 6 & 9): Personalization and alert scheduling are processed under contractual performance (Art. 6(1)(b)) and explicit affirmative user input (Art. 9(2)(a)).
- Supervisory Authority: Data subjects have the right to lodge inquiries with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

- Privacy by Default (Article 25): Local SQLite sandboxing with zero cross-border data transfers outside the EEA.

4. Instant Data Erasure (Right to be Forgotten)
You can irreversibly delete all data at any moment: open the app's Settings tab, scroll to Data Storage & Privacy Reality, and tap Wipe All Local Data. The database tables (including user profile, reminders, instances, and history) are instantly dropped from local disk.
